Make a Splash!

Brighten up your sewing studio with the newest rotary cutters from Olfa!

This line of cutters has the quilter in mind with three fun colours to choose from, Purple, Teal and Pink. They also feature the quick change blade feature so you never have to touch the blade when changing it. The cutters use the same size blades, 45mm and feature comfort handle, easy to close and the price is right! Just $19.95

New mats from Olfa will soon be available in pink and teal too! One side features the grid for cutting and measuring, while the other side is plain, perfect for trims and squaring up blocks.

Cuddle Kits

This week we had a great class on putting together cuddle quilts, these are the Oh sew Cozy kits perfect for young ones (or old ones like me!) A variety of sizes and colours are available and will suit anyone who needs an extra cozy hug this time of year! Since everything is included in the kits (except the backing) and the pieces are just about cut to size, there is little or no waste!

Working with cuddle does require a few tips like keeping a portable vacuum cleaner nearby as the initial cutting does produce "cuddle dust". However once the initial cutting is done, very little shedding occurs. And you will love how the Flip and Sew method gets these quilts finished in an afternoon! Seriously!

Other items to make the task run smoothly are Perfect Baste Spray, a walking foot and LOTS of pins!

Currently in stock - baby kits for girls or boys; throw size quilts for bigger kids and cozy throws for you and me!

Not sure you want to try this on your own, sign up for one of our open classroom spots, you'll be glad you did!

Hera Marker and other pressing tools..

Hera Markers have been around for years, and although you may think it is a writing tool, it really isn’t that type of marker. The Hera Marker is designed for making creases on your fabric instead of pencil lines, perfect for indicating where to sew without the worry of it lasting forever!

This tool can also be used as a quick pressing tool using the wide edge of the marker. Perfect for small seams etc.

There are many types available from regular end to slim or pointed end depending on your other sewing needs.

Shown here are the Hold It Precision Stiletto; Iron Finger and Point 2 Point Turner. Different tasks, different shapes/sizes, different materials. We work on different sizes and shapes of things, we need a variety of tools to cover all the basics.

Book early, spaces sell out fast!

Jennifer has been working on her Urbanology Quilt. This is a block of the month class using the Mini Quick Curve Ruler. The blocks are fun, my favourite are the adorable birds! but the arrows and houses are extremely attractive, not to mention the butterfly and pear....

There is still room in her next class Tuesday February 28 from 1 - 4

We have both the ruler and the book in stock.

By the way...I just googled "Quick Curve Ruler" and clicked on the Images tab and there are some truly inspiring quilts to be made using these rulers! We have lots of patterns in the store and both Jennifer and Sue B have the knowledge to guide you through your next project or class!

Sewing Machine Needles

Change your needle today! We often overlook this very important piece of advice. We change our blades, make sure our scissors are sharp, throw out pins that are bent or dull but we keep using a sewing machine needle until it breaks!! "Start a new project - start with a new needle" is good advice.

Tony often checks a machine where the owner complains about poor stitch quality or skipping stitches, often a new needle is the only remedy needed.

We also struggle with which needle to use. Our go to needle is a Universal 80/12 when we just need to piece our fabrics together. When it comes to sewing different thickness or types of material; using different types and weights of threads, a different needle may be needed We have a free ABC Pocket Guide for you this week when you purchase a pack of needles. Hopefully this will help when you go to select a needle for your next project.

Download the Schmetz App for your IPad or tablet.
