Row by Row 2018
The Musical Edition!
We are thrilled to be participating once again in Row by Row. This annual event allows you to visit quilt shops across the country and pick up free patterns for a themed block or row. Many stores also have kits available and heck, this is just a great reason to visit quilt shops when you travel!
This years theme is MUSIC, and since we have a very famous and loved musician who grew up here in Orillia, we thought we would celebrate him. Gordon Lightfoot has had a stellar career and all generations are familiar with his songs.
Wanda designed this years row using the collage technique and adding the song titles of just a few of our favourite ones.
Join the fun and collect the row patterns. Get creative and make a quilt using 8 of the rows. Quilt it, bind it and bring it to one of the participating shops. If yours is the first one for that store, you win a stack of Fat Quarters!
Visit the row by row website for more details, map, participating stores and more!
The fall and winter fabrics will be arriving soon and we need to make room! This is the best time to stock up, find backings, start a new project etc...

Northcott Maplewood Fabrics
I know we just have started to get some amazing summer weather (well last week we did!), but now the fall fabric is starting to arrive. Check out Northcott's beautiful new panel and coordinates. They are truly unique and very Canadian!
Joni Newman has designed an interesting take on her stained glass technique. This time, you use the panel, cut it apart and place it on the black background. No tracing required! I am currently working on mine and hope to have it completed in the coming weeks.
Another pattern again features the panel and many of the co-ordinates to make a lap or full size quilt.
Whichever one you choose, you will love the results!
Please note, we just have the red and gold colourway in stock.
Faux Piped Binding
I love the look of this binding and use it often as it is easy to make and the bonus - it is all done by machine, no hand stitching required!
Start by determining the fabric used for the small piping piece and the fabric to be used for the main part of the binding. In my sample, the darker tan was used for the piping and the cream is my main binding.
Cut piping strips 1 3/4"
Cut main binding 1 1/2"
Join all the piping strips together and all the main binding strips together, then lengthwise join the piping strips to the main binding strips. Press to the piping colour. Fold strip in half with wrong sides together as you normally would when making binding.
Starting on the back, leave the 10" tail, and sew with the binding side against the back of the quilt. Stitch 1/4 - 3/8" seam, making the "flippy fold" in the corners. Join the ends together when finished. (If you need help drop by and we can show you our preferred method!)
Press the binding away from the quilt.
Check your thread colour and make sure the bobbin matches the back of the quilt and top thread matches the binding colour.
Bring the binding to the front of the quilt and stitch in the ditch on all sides folding the corners to make a perfect mitre. Done! and it looks amazing!
SHOP HOP IS COMING!!!
