Slowly Welcoming You Back!

The Ontario Government has now indicated retail stores can once again open, however, social distancing measures need to be in place. We look forward to serving you in person again, however, we want to put your health and ours first and foremost.

This is how we have planned our next two weeks:

  • A continuation of on line shopping, email orders, phone orders (we've have all become very adept at this!)
  • Appointments will be every 30 minutes starting at 1:00p.m.
  • You will be required to wear a mask (please bring one with you)
  • Hand sanitizer will be provided upon arrival (yes you may touch the fabric!).
  • The bathroom facilities will be closed.

We hope we only have to do this for 2 weeks, but we will monitor the situation in accordance with other retail businesses and will revise as necessary.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the store, but keep in mind, our health and yours is our utmost priority.

We have cancelled all classes until September, but hope to offer outdoor demo days, Quilt displays and more.

Pick up outside the front door anytime between 9 - 3. On-line and email orders anytime!

Attention Coupon card holders!

This month your coupon card entitled you to take a free class - as that is not happening, we thought $10 off any in stock book priced over $30 would be a nice treat! We have many books featured on our on line store - or if you know a particular title you are looking for, we can check out stock for you.

**Please note, this offer is only for those who purchased a 2020 coupon card. Coupon cards go on sale in December and January. Look on line for in stock books. To order, you will need to call or email as we cannot process coupon card discounts.

Spring/Summer Quilt Along

Beginning June 1st, 2020, there will be a weekly blog post on our website to guide you through the making of a “Square Dance” quilt. The Quilt Along encourages you to stay on track, give you helpful hints and answer any questions you may have.
The large blocks in Square Dance allows you to use that fabric that you have always loved but didn't want to slice up. The pattern offers the option to make the quilt in various sizes from generous throw to a Kingly King!

Go to https://thimblesandthings.com/blogs/square-dance to see a full introduction.
The pattern is $9.95 and can be downloaded here or order the Print pattern

I actually prefer downloading my patterns to my computer so I can store them in one folder. If I am downloading on my iPad, I can store them in my iBooks. Then, I never “misplace” my paper pattern, I can print it out as many times as I need to....

To download a pattern:

  1. Choose the PDF DOWNLOAD version of the pattern.
  2. ADD TO CART
  3. Follow the prompts for CHECKOUT and PAYMENT. Be sure your contact information is correct!
  4. The screen will change and you will see PREPARING YOUR DOWNLOADS. Be patient, this may take a few seconds.
  5. A box reading DOWNLOAD NOW will appear. Click on this. Your pattern will be downloaded to a "Downloads" folder or your computer may prompt you to choose a folder.
A confirmation of your purchase will also be sent to you via email. Hope this helps!

This is where to find the Sew Along Blog!

Click the above image and it will link you to the web page!

Retreat Bag

Over the years we have loved this handy bag from Emmaline. It is perfect for holding your sewing items, rotary cutter, scissors, pin containers etc... But we've also had many of you make it for your daughters as cosmetic bags and for the guys - shaving kits. The stay open wide top allows you to see inside the bag. It reminds me of the old fashioned doctors bags! Emmaline patterns generously makes this pattern a free download, so take a break from making masks, and give this handy bag a try.

The bag has a zipper and I used to be afraid of putting zippers in, but after watching Sue B put them in so easily, I am no longer afraid and I love adding zippers to pillows, purses and more!

Watch Sue as she demonstrates how to put a zipper in the Emmaline Retreat bag. This method means you don't even need to change (or find!) to a zipper foot. Keep your 1/4" foot on and you are good to go. Her other secret product for zippers is the wonder tape. This two sided tape holds the zipper in place so you do not need to pin! AMAZING!

Order frames and wonder tape here!
The Lexie lunch bag is similar and you can purchase this pattern on our website.

SewLine Glue pen and Fons & Porter Glue Pens

We are now carrying both the SewLine and the Fons & Porter Glue Pens. These are wonderful when you need to tack something down to hold it in place prior to stitching. Many English Paper Piecers and Hand Applique enthusiasts use this for holding their fabric to their paper template prior to stitching. Both pens are very similar - SewLine Glue Pen comes with a refill and also has refill glue sticks available in pink, blue. These are all interchangeable with other brands of glue pens.
