Sweet Snow Along 5 - Two Blocks

Posted by Wanda Milankov on

The goal this week is to assemble 2 blocks: Row 2 Block 6 and Row 3 Block 1.

You will need:

          - sewing machine loaded with a neutral thread

          - iron and pressing surface

          - previously made HSTs

          - Black Vintage Cookbook fabric

          - White Solid fabric

From this point on, I will be referring to 2 methods of assembly. One, showing the assembly used by the pattern designer (sewing triangles) and Two, using only HSTs with no sewing of triangles.

Let's begin with the Row 2 Block 6 block.

Gather 16 previously made HSTs and cut squares and rectangles as shown below.

Methods 1 & 2

Lay all of the pieces out beside your sewing machine as they would appear in the block.

Sew the seams in the order indicated below and press the seam allowances in the direction of the arrows.

Square the block to 8".

Now to make Row 3 Block 1.

Gather or cut the pieces you will need for the method you are using.

4 - 2” x 3½”

1 - 2” square

Method 1:

Slice each 3⅞” white square and each 2⅜” black square in half diagonally.

Lay all of the pieces out beside your sewing machine as they would appear in the block and sew them together in the order shown.

Square the block to 8".

 Method 2:

Lay all of the pieces out beside your sewing machine as they would appear in the block and sew them together in the order shown.

Square the block to 8".

Remember to clearly label the blocks.

Having the HSTs already on hand sure made putting these blocks together simpler. Well done!
